Field was mixed with dry and wet conditions. The high soil and sandy soil was fit but lower, heavy soils were not and came up in slabs. The SW wind would dry the surface quickly and discing the heavy soil a second time made a much smoother finish. If rain would miss, the field could be worked into a seed bed and planted the next day.
